HabiStat Carbon Printed Heat Mats emit long wave infrared heat that cannot be seen, gently warming any surface they touch. They work in a similar way to how natural surfaces heat up under sunlight like rocks, logs, or soil. These surfaces absorb heat from the sun and then release it back into the surroundings, helping to warm the air through convection. This soft, steady warmth allows animals to take in heat by sitting on, under, or next to the heated area, just as they would in the wild. It helps recreate natural “belly heat” which is important for many species, while also slightly raising the surrounding air temperature. Although the mats do warm up, the heat they produce is mild and safe for animals to rest on or near. Under normal use, they will not cause burns. It’s important to remember that heat mats are designed to provide a gentle background warmth rather than intense heat. These mats also feature a builtin thermal safety cut-out. If the surface temperature exceeds the safe limit, the mat will automatically switch off and then reset itself once it has cooled down. Animals that are active during the day, such as many lizards, often require a dedicated basking spot with more intense, localized heat.
